About Commissioner Monique Sheffield

Monique Sheffield, currently serving as Cobb County District 4 Commissioner, brings nearly 25 years of residency in the district, residing in Austell, Powder Springs, and now Mableton.  This diverse background provides her with a deep understanding of the unique character of each area.  

Before her election victory in 2020, Monique served as the District 4 representative on the Cobb County Board of Zoning Appeals. She is a graduate of Cobb 101: Citizens Government Academy, Cobb County Police Public Safety Academy, and the Cobb Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Cobb Class of 2023.  

Serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners during her first year in office, Economic Mobility Leadership committees with the National Association of Counties, and the Board of Directors for Cobb Travel & Tourism underscores Sheffield's leadership and influence in economic development and shaping policy for Cobb County residents. 

Sheffield's first term has been marked by a dedicated commitment to improving the quality of life for her constituents. She secured funding for SPLOST and other projects in District 4 including the Austell Transportation Transfer Center; South Cobb Medical Center; the Chattahoochee Riverland Trail; expansion of the South Cobb Regional Library, and neighborhood pocket parks.

For professional growth, she has dedicated herself to enhancing her role as commissioner, earning a Certified County Commissioner certification from the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government.  She currently serves on the National Association o Counties; Community Economic Workforce Development and the Economic Mobility Leadership national committees. Her dedication to sustainability and beautification efforts in the community led to her receiving the Keep Georgia Beautiful Steve Reynolds Public Servant of the Year Award.

Sheffield holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice and always seeks what is right and fair! Her sense of fairness and equity shapes her decision-making process as a member of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. 

Looking ahead, Commissioner Sheffield remains committed to enhancing District 4 with parks, green space, smart development, and improving health and wellness.  She remains steadfastly dedicated to empowering progress, nurturing community spirit, and transforming District 4. Commissioner Sheffield will continue to roll up her sleeves to work on your behalf to move the district towards a future of balanced prosperity for all constituents.

  • Commissioner Sheffield’s “State of Mableton Address
     
  • Ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 26 for the Drennon Avenue Silver Comet connection in Austell.   It was difficult to access the trail because there was not an existing safe entry point and the residents created a man-made pathway which was often-times dangerous because of snakes lurking beneath the brush.  County staff (PARKS) collaborated with the community and solved the access challenge by adding a bridge for residents to access the trail.
