Adoption

Image
A close-up of a striking calico cat with green eyes, gazing curiously at the camera. Its fur is a mix of black, orange, and white, creating a beautiful patchwork pattern. The cat's long white whiskers contrast against its dark facial markings. Resting against a soft white surface, it appears relaxed, with a hint of curiosity in its expression. A window in the background lets in natural light, softly illuminating the cat’s face.

View Pets Available for Rescue

Sometimes animals have a hard time getting adopted due to injuries or extensive care required. The pets listed here are available for licensed rescue organizations. Rescue organizations do not need an appointment to pick up the available pets.

Although our intent is to adopt animals, our main concern is to make sure that animals are adopted into loving homes capable of handling the new pet.

Cobb County Ordinance gives Cobb County Animal Services the right to deny, limit the amount of adoptions by any individual, and to require adopters to sign an adoption agreement/contract with every adoption. This is for the safety of the animal being adopted.

General Questions

What do I need to do to adopt a pet from Cobb County Animal Services?

You must have an I.D. (Drivers License, Georgia I. D., Military I.D., or passport) and have the proper fees for the adoption.

How old do I have to be to adopt an animal?

You must be eighteen (18) years of age to adopt an animal from our shelter; this is because the adoption agreement is a legally binding agreement.

What identification do I need to adopt an animal or reclaim my animal?

To reclaim or adopt an animal a Driver’s License, Georgia I. D. Card, Military I.D., or passport is required.

Do you accept checks, debit cards, or credit cards?

We accept personal checks drawn on local banks, credit cards, debit cards, and cash.

Can I bring my animal to Cobb County Animal Services for adoption?

Our employees, volunteers, and rescue groups would love to help you keep your pet. Sometimes the issue causing you to contemplate surrendering your pet can be resolved with additional information about, and assistance with, your particular animal.

We encourage you to contact local rescue groups, visit animal rehoming websites and try to rehome your pet with friends and family prior to surrendering to our shelter; use these resources first.

If you still need to surrender your pet to our shelter, you MUST be a Cobb County resident and set an appointment. You will be required to show proof of residency at the surrender appointment.

Do you adopt any other type of animal besides cats and dogs?

No, animals such as fish, birds, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and reptiles are rarely turned into the shelter. When we do get these animals, we have rescue groups that take possession of them. These groups are very knowledgeable of the specific needs of these animals and they adopt them out from their rescue group.
