Benefits at a Glance

Cobb County Government provides Basic Life insurance for all full-time employees in an amount equal to two (2) times annual salary, rounded up to the next higher $1,000 to all employees, except Superior Court Judges who receive one (1) times annual salary.

Age Reductions

  • Benefits reduce to 65% of the original amount at age 70 and to 50% at age 75.
  • Costs for this plan are paid 100% by Cobb County Government.
  • Refer to the Life Insurance Buy-Up section for additional group life insurance coverage option.

Life Insurance Buy Up

Benefits at a Glance

Coverage is designed to protect you while you are an employee. If you retire or your employment ends, the coverage can be ported.

Options

Employees have the option of selecting additional Life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. Employees can choose one (1) to five (5) times earnings.

Age Reductions

Personal Life and AD&D Insurance will be reduced as follows:

  • At age 70, benefits will reduce by 35% of the original amount.
  • At age 75, benefits will reduce an additional 15% of the original amount.
  • Benefits will terminate when you retire.

Evidence of Insurability

Employees who enroll when first eligible can apply for one (1) to three (3) times earnings- not to exceed $250,000.

Any amount over three (3) times earnings, exceeding $250,000 will be subject to Evidence of Insurability.

Rates

To calculate your Bi-Weekly payroll deduction costs, round your annual salary up to the next higher $1,000 increment, divide by 1,000 and multiply the results by the below rate corresponding to your attained age as of January 1.

Example: Age 41 with salary of $23,500 ($24,000 / 1,000 = 24 X $.0964 = $2.31)

Dependent Life

Benefits at a Glance

Each full-time employee has the option of selecting Group Dependent Life on their eligible Spouse and Children up to age 19 (or, 25 if they are full-time students).

Evidence of Insurability

If you did not elect the Group Dependent Life coverage the first time it was offered to you (either at new hire orientation or annual enrollment), you must submit evidence of insurability for Spouse Coverage.

Dependent Life for children is not required to complete Evidence of Insurability. The rate is inclusive for covering one dependent or multiple.

Rates

Bi-Weekly payroll deduction for this coverage is $2.00

If both parents are employees of Cobb County Government, only one parent can cover the children, and an employee cannot be covered as an employee and as a dependent.
