Water System Facility Awards

The Cobb County Water System continuously strives to provide quality water, wastewater, stormwater management, public education and community outreach, and customer services. The Water System and staff have been honored with awards for persistent efforts to ensure high-quality services to residents and businesses community.

Professional and industry organizations including the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP); the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), a Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; and the Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) are among those presenting these awards.

Noonday Creek Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)

Noonday Creek WRF is one of the four water reclamation facilities of the Cobb County Water System. At this facility, we process daily at a capacity of 20 million gallons of wastewater generated by the Northeast Cobb, North Marietta, East Kennesaw, and portions of Cherokee County areas. We strive our best to treat wastewater while meeting all treatment compliance. This facility has been honored with the following awards:

  • 2022 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2021. 
  • 2021 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2020. 
  • 2020 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2019. 
  • 2018 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2017.
  • 2016 GAWP Platinum Award for eleven consecutive years of complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance.

Northwest Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)

Northwest WRF is one of the four water reclamation facilities of the Cobb County Water System. At this facility, we process daily at a capacity of 8 million gallons of wastewater generated by the Northwest Cobb, Acworth, West Kennesaw, and portions of Cherokee and Bartow Counties areas. We strive our best to treat wastewater while meeting all treatment compliance. This facility has been honored with the following awards:

  • 2022 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2021.
  • 2021 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2020.
  • 2018 GAWP Platinum Award for eighteen consecutive years of complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance.

RL Sutton Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)

RL Sutton WRF is one of the four water reclamation facilities of the Cobb County Water System. At this facility, we process daily at a capacity of 60 million gallons of wastewater generated by the East Cobb, South Marietta, Smyrna, and portions of the Fulton County areas. We strive our best to treat wastewater while meeting all treatment compliance. This facility has been honored with the following awards:

  • 2023 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2022.
  • 2022 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2021.
  • 2021 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2020.
  • 2019 GAWP Gold Award for Complete and Consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2018.

South Cobb Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)

South Cobb WRF is one of the four water reclamation facilities of the Cobb County Water System. At this facility, we process daily at a capacity of 40 million gallons of wastewater generated by the South Cobb, portions of West Cobb, Austell, Powder Springs and Mableton areas. We strive our best to treat wastewater while meeting all treatment compliance. This facility has been honored with the following awards:

  • 2022 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2021.
  • 2021 GAWP Gold Award for complete and consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2020.
  • 2018 GAWP Gold  Award for Complete and Consistent NPDES Permit Compliance during the calendar year 2017.

Water Quality Lab

The Water Quality Laboratory houses the laboratory operations, Stream Monitoring Program, Watershed-Stewardship Program, and a 1,600 sq foot training center equipped with the latest in multimedia equipment. The lab operates six days a week, testing samples from water reclamation facilities, industrial discharges, surface water, and stormwater runoff. Wastewater treatment analysis from the four reclamation facilities comprises 90 percent of the 90,000 analyses performed by the laboratory each year. This facility has been honored with the following awards:

  • 2023 GAWP Quality Assurance Award for outstanding performance and QA/QC programs.
  • 2013 GAWP Laboratory Quality Assurance at a Municipal Wastewater Laboratory in the category of Greater than 20 MGD.
