Several groups are stepping up to help our Animal Services relieve overcrowding at the shelter.  One event is Saturday from 11a-6p: Dunamis Woman Power Paws pet adoption event @ Noonday Creek Park (489 Hawkins Store Rd., Kennesaw 30144)

Don't procrastinate  - this weekend, get the clutter out of your house, garage, shed and other storage areas by bringing everything to the Keep Cobb Beautiful Recycling event 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 30 at White Water/Six Flags, 250 Cobb Parkway N., Marietta.  Load 'em up and get 'em out! Hump day!  The second county Employee Appreciation Day at the North GA State Fair happens today.  Fair opens at 4 pm.  NorthGeorgiaStateFair.com

The Board of Commissioners met Tuesday night.  They approved a five-year Strategic Plan for the county. More and more calls to our 911 center involve people with certain special needs or conditions that could make it hard to communicate or deal with first responders. Our Dept. of Emergency Communications is assembling a database of people with special conditions that can help them handle the calls, and first responders to respond appropriately.

One of our more popular videos on our YouTube channel this month was the Sheriff's Office demonstrating a new method of restraining subjects without injuring them or the deputies.  You can watch that demonstration here.

Happy Monday.  It is fall break week for Cobb County schools, meaning traffic is a bit lighter for those of us still coming to work!  

The Cobb family celebrated our Employee Appreciation Day at the North Georgia State Fair this weekend.  The weather was perfect, and the turnout was fantastic. The team works hard, and it was nice to spend time with co-workers outside of the work environment!

Once or twice a year, the county looks at its codes defining our regulations. At the Tuesday work session (1:30 pm - Live on CobbTV), our Community Development Director will take us through this fall's proposed changes and revisions.  You can find the package on our website's front page.

The weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend! Enjoy some time in a local park.  Cobb County PARKS department operates 44 facilities and has 1,350 developed acres. As the primary provider of leisure services and facilities within the County, the department also provides a wide range of athletic, artistic, therapeutic and educational services. The North Georgia State Fair kicks off tonight at Cobb's Jim R. Miller Park.  During some of the more popular days and evenings at the fair, traffic backed up into nearby neighborhoods. The Sheriff's Office has been working on a plan to more efficiently get people in and out of the fairgrounds.  Watch this video for details on the traffic plan!

The District Attorney hosted an emotional news conference yesterday, announcing that technology has helped them solve the 50-year-old murder of Debbie Randall.  The case haunted the Randall family, investigators, and the Marietta community. You can watch the news conference to learn how technology solved the case, what happened to the killer, and the reaction from the victim's family and investigators who had hunted the killer for years.  Click here to watch the news conference.

Tomorrow is the annual Truck-A-Palooza event at Town Center at Cobb mall from 10am-3pm. This is a great family event, with lots of opportunities for your children to explore all kinds of trucks, construction equipment, buses, helicopters and more. $5 per person (max $20 for family). CONGRATULATIONS to the Atlanta Braves for clinching their sixth straight National League East title!  While sports fans here in Cobb and elsewhere can celebrate this big win, the work is heating up for the Cobb family.  Public Safety has led a series of meetings on handling the potential crush of crowds coming for the playoffs and - hopefully - a post-season celebration.   

Keeping everyone safe is the top priority while letting visitors enjoy the experience of yet another post-season run!

We have a busy beautiful weekend ahead with a birthday paw-ty,  a parade through East Cobb, and two memorial stair climbs honoring firefighters and first responders who gave their life Sept. 11, 2001.  

The Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund Stair Climb honors the legacy of the 343 firefighters who gave their life in the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001. The Truist Park Stair Climb begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, at 755 Battery Avenue SE, Atlanta. All proceeds will benefit firefighters in need and their families throughout the state of Georgia. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Register here.

The annual Marietta Fire Department 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to be held 9 a.m. - noon Sunday, Sept. 10, will honor the 343 firefighters and all heroes who died during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Participants will climb 110 stories in either turnout gear or civilian clothes at the 120 Cherokee Street parking deck, located at 112 Haynes Street, Marietta. The event is open to all first responders and anyone who wishes to climb.

Tonight East Cobbers get a chance to talk to Chairwoman Lisa Cupid at a town hall starting at 6:30 p.m.  at Fullers Park Recreation Center. The Chairwoman will answer questions and share her vision for the county.  Fullers Park is located at 3499 Robinson Road, Marietta.

Chairwoman Lisa Cupid is hosting the annual Dobbins Stakeholder Meeting at the Jim R. Miller Park Event Center.  This yearly meeting brings Dobbins, Lockheed, and Air Force leaders to the table to discuss issues surrounding one of Cobb County's largest employers.  The new commander of the 94th Airlift Wing gave a presentation to the group about the future of the base and units that use it.  Those in attendance include representatives from the county, school district, business community, and military groups.

Happy September! All Cobb County Government offices will be closed in honor of Labor Day Monday, Sept. 4. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.
