PARKS Fall 2024 Activity Guide

SEPTEMBER Pet Adoption Special

Cobb Animal Shelter's food panty is empty. To help replenish a pet food supply, you can get a new furry friend free from Cobb Animal Services in September when you donate a bag of unexpired pet food (five pounds or more)  or six cans or more of wet food, at 1060 Al Bishop Drive. Or send food ordered online to:

Your donations enable the county to help families in need to feed their pets and avoid surrendering them to our shelter.

TUESDAY SEPT. 10

Kick it with the Cobb Police Athletic League at a free Soccer Camp for kids. 5 - 15 years old, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 10 - 11 at Tramore Park,  2150 East-West Connector, Austell.  More info and link to register here.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 11 

  • Patriot Day - Patriot Day is a United States national observance that honors the memory of those who were killed in the Sept.11, 2001 attacks. On Patriot Day, the national flag is flown at half-mast on all United States government buildings and establishments. A moment of silence is traditionally observed at 8:46 AM. Many organizations and establishments hold memorial ceremonies to honor the victims of 9/11.
  • Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services will honor the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. This remembrance will take place at all fire stations across Cobb County to salute the fallen firefighters, law enforcement officers, and civilians who lost their lives in this tragic event.

    The commemoration will be synchronized to the exact times of the World Trade Center events, with sirens sounding for one minute at 10:05 a.m. and 10:28 a.m. to mark the collapse of each tower.
    8:46 a.m. Moment of silence for American Airlines Flight 11 crash victims.
    9:03 a.m. Moment of silence for United Airlines Flight 175 crash victims.
    9:37 a.m. Moment of silence for American Airlines Flight 77 crash victims.
    10:03 a.m. Moment of silence for United Airlines Flight 93 crash victims.
    10:05 a.m. Sirens sound for one minute; church bells ring.
    10:06 a.m. Lower station flag to half-mast.
    10:28 a.m. Sirens sound for one minute; church bells ring.

  • The Fabulous World of Fungi, 9:30 a.m. - noon Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Hyde Farm Park. Register here. Grow your own mushrooms! Make a kit with the Mushroom Club of Georgia.  This free, hands-on workshop will teach you about mushrooms and an easy at-home process for growing your oyster mushrooms.  Supplies will be provided. Registration required.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 14

  • Frontier Day - What was life like in Cobb in the 1800s? Step into old-timey Cobb Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Green Meadows Preserve, 3780 Dallas Highway. See folks spinning cotton, see how folks did chores like churning butter and washing clothes. From 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., kids can take a walk on the wild side at the petting zoo. Free.
     
  • East Cobber Parade and Festival  -  Johnson Ferry Road will be closed 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. northbound and southbound,  from  Mt. Bethel Elementary/Princeton Lakes Subdivision entrance to Olde Towne Parkway/Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. View the parade route here.
     
  • Concert - An Evening of R& B: Joe and Eric Benet. More information here at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre website.
     

SUNDAY, SEPT. 15

Music in the Park - 4 - 6 p.m. at East Cobb Park, 3322 Roswell Road, Marietta. Free. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks, and hang out to listen to the sounds of Man Bites Dog.

MONDAY, SEPT. 16

Pet Microchipping -  Dogs and cat appointments are full.  Still accepting birds and bunny appointments. RSVP to Jessica.Darrough@cobbcounty.org to have your pet microchipped 3 - 7 p.m., Sept. 16More information here.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18 

Wine Down Wednesday - an Evening of Jazz featuring Lin Rountree & 6Flow Band. 7 p.m. concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. RSVP here to secure your free ticket.

North Georgia State Fair

Let's ride Cobb County! It's time for the North Georgia State Fair at the Jim Miller Fairgrounds, 2245 Callaway Road in Marietta. Gather the family and friends and head over for a day of thrilling rides, delicious fair food, and live entertainment.

Shows:

Hypnotist, Fireguy fire show, Rock-N-Circus, Atlanta Puppeteer Peter Hart, Sea Lion Splash, Jurassic Kingdom, Rosaire's Royal Racers (pig racing),  Ready-Go-Dog Frisbee dog show, Petting Barn, Eudora Farms Animals from Around the World, Human Cannonball, and a Chainsaw artist.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 20

Senior day at the fair - Seniors 55 and older are being treated to a funtastic day out with Cobb County Senior Services, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20. Enjoy a free morning of exclusive activities and entertainment that includes breakfast, the Sea Lion Splash and a frisbee dog show, a petting zoo, rides and bingo with awesome prizes. No registration is needed. You do not need to be a member of the Cobb Senior Centers.

Seniors 55+ can also enter the fair free on Sept. 20 when the fair opens at 4 p.m. at Jim Miller Fairgrounds, 2245 Callaway Road SW, Marietta.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21

  • Celebrate Navratri at Vinings Library from 2 - 4 p.m.  - dance your heart out with Dandiya, a lively folk dance! Enjoy an energetic performance, join in on the fun, and participate in crafts and a scavenger hunt. Perfect for the whole family!
     
  • Concert - An Evening of Soul: Ledisi featuring Kevin Ross. 8 p.m. concert. Doors open at 7 p.m.  at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. Get tickets here.

SATURDAY, OCT. 5

MAKE-A-WISH 5K
 Cobb County hosts the Make-A-Wish 5K fundraiser to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. The race is a Peachtree Road Race qualifying event.  Race begins at 8 a.m. Walk-up registration begins at 7 a.m. More details and to registration.

TRUCK-A-PALOOZA
Explore SWAT trucks, fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles during Truck-A-Palooza on Saturday, Oct. 5. 🎉 👏 From 10 am - 3 pm, children can climb on trucks and interact with first responders in the back parking lot of the Town Center Mall in Kennesaw. 🚒 This event is rain or shine!
💸 Entry is just $5 per person or $20 per family (up to 6 members). Tickets are available at the gate. Cash or credit card accepted. Children under 2 years are free.
