SATURDAY, MAY 17

• Milford Recreation Center grand opening and ribbon cutting - 11 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a celebration at 675 Smyrna Powder Springs Road SW, Marietta, next to Birney Elementary School. After the ribbon cutting, stay for activities and tour the facility from noon - 4 p.m. Enjoy a complimentary lunch (while supplies last.)

•Learn about Cobb's public safety entities and how they all work together to keep Cobb safe at the Department of Safety's 2025 session of the Citizens Public Safety Academy.  16-week program begins May 20Find more details and apply for the Citizens Academy here.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 21

• DIY Book Page Wreaths, noon - 1:30 p.m. at Sibley Library, 1539 South Cobb Drive
Marietta.  Book lovers and upcyclers will love making these upcycled wreaths from old book pages. All materials provided. Register here.

• Teen Thrift Flip, 5 - 6 p.m. at Switzer Library, 266 Roswell Street, Marietta.  Get creative and transform old, forgotten items into your next favorite outfit! Whether it's a jeans, bags, or jacket, the possibilities are endless. Use, fabric, patches, or any supplies you have to give it a fresh, stylish twist. For grades 6 -12. Free. Register here.

• Family Chess Night, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Vinings Library, 4290 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta.  Join us on the first and third Wednesdays each month for an evening of chess from 5:30pm to 7:30pm!  All skill levels invited to come and have fun!  No registration needed. Free.

• Open Play Chess, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at West Cobb Library, 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane, Kennesaw.  All ages. Free.

🎵 Ukulele Club, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Sewell Mill Library, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta. Learn to play ukulele. Meet new people and play new music. All skill levels are welcome. Music will be provided. Bring your own ukulele or use one of ours. Ukuleles are limited, on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is recommended, but not required. 🎾 Tennis - AYTEF Junior Red Ball Challenge, 5 - 5:45 p.m. at Fair Oaks Tennis Center, 1460 West Booth Road Ext. SW, Marietta. Red Ball Team Challenge is specially designed for beginner players ages 5–8. This fun, team-based event is the perfect way to introduce young athletes to the thrill of competition in a supportive and low-pressure environment. 🎾 Tennis - AYTEF Junior team Challenge, 5 - 6:30  p.m. at Fair Oaks Tennis Center, 1460 West Booth Road Ext. SW, Marietta. For beginner and intermediate players ages 7–12. It's a fun and friendly intro to match play using orange and green balls!  Perfect for kids new to point play, Low-pressure, team-based format, great for building confidence, skills & friendships. • Touch a Truck - In celebration of American Public Works Week, the Cobb County Department of Transportation invites you to Touch A Truck, 1 - 3 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway SE, Marietta. Free.  Get up close with dump trucks, loaders, and more! Kids and adults can climb inside, meet the operators, and discover how public works keeps our community moving.

SATURDAY, MAY 24

🧶Crochet Class for Teens, noon - 1 p.m. at  Switzer Library. Register here.

🎵 Sweetwater Valley Ukulele Program, 12:30 - 1 p.m. at Sweetwater Valley Library. Free ukulele lessons for those 7 years and older on Saturdays at 12:30 p.m.  Lessons are taught by members of the West Georgia Ukulele Ensemble.  Ukuleles are available for one-week checkouts by library patrons at the circulation desk. Registration required here.

• Cyanotype Printing, 2 - 4 p.m. at Vinings Library - Immortalize  objects with a cyanotype print by arranging items on a piece of pre-treated paper, and exposing the paper to sunlight. A water bath will reveal the image. Free. For adults. Register here.

• Help place flags at each gravestone at Marietta National Cemetery 8 a.m. Saturday, May 24,  ahead of the Memorial Day Ceremony.

☀️Cobb PARKS' two outdoor pools open for the summer!☀️ (in addition to four indoor aquatic centers):

☀️Sewell Park Pool, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta

  • Opens Saturday, May 24 and will be open 7 days a week through July 28.
  • Hours are 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., except holidays when it is open from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • From Sunday, July 21 - Monday Sept. 1 -  the pool will be open from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on weekends only.
  • Open on holidays - Holiday hours are in effect for Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day and Labor Day.
    Fees are $3.50 for youth, $4.50 for adults and $3 for seniors (55+).

Memorial Day - Cobb County Government offices and facilities are closed for the holiday. 

Several Memorial Day ceremonies are being held around the county to commemorate those who have fallen while serving our country:

  • Smyrna Memorial Day Ceremony - Monday, May 26,  9:30 - 10:30 a.m., at Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial in downtown Smyrna, 2800 King Street SE, Smyrna
  • Powder Springs Memorial Day Ceremony - In partnership with American Legion Post 294, Monday, May 26, at Noon, at the Veteran's Memorial, in front of Powder Springs Library, 4181 Atlanta St, Powder Springs
  • Marietta Memorial Day Ceremony, In collaboration with the National Memorial Day Association of Georgia, Monday, May 26,  at Noon, Marietta National Cemetery, 500 Washington Ave NE, Marietta

TUESDAY, MAY 27

• Advance Voting for the June 17 Public Service Commissioner Special Primary Election begins May 27 and ends June 13. Find locations and hours here.

📱 Device Advice, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at East Cobb Library. Get help with your personal devices, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and e-readers. Trained library staff will guide users through various functions and features of their devices, answer questions, and provide tips to make everyday technology use easier and more enjoyable. Video Editing for Social Media, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Sewell Mill Library, Creative Studios  2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.  Learn to create engaging and effective video content for social media.
