Stormwater runoff often contains dirt, lawn clippings, fertilizers, bacteria, household chemicals, and pathogens from pet waste. Since the debris that enters the storm drains is transported to local creeks, rivers, and ponds without treatment, it’s important to limit our impact through stormwater runoff. You might have noticed blue aluminum markers with the message “No Dumping, Drains to Creek” on your local storm drains. These markers were placed by volunteers to educate and remind community members that everything that enters the storm drain has an impact on water quality.

A great way to help protect our water quality is by participating in one of our upcoming storm drain marking community events. Cobb Water hosts these events each Fall and Spring throughout Cobb County and the event can count towards the required service hours! During a storm drain marking event, teams will walk through a local neighborhood to mark the storm drains, distribute packets to each home to educate them on the newly marked storm drains, and pick up litter. All supplies are provided, and the events are open to all ages! To register for one of our community events, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/storm-drain-marking-tickets-118677235807?aff=oddtdtcreator

Interested in marking storm drains, but can’t make one of our planned events, or want to mark the storm drains in YOUR neighborhood? You can request to do an independent storm drain marking project and Cobb Water provides all the supplies. This independent service project is great for families, clubs, and community organizations!
