Eight Cobb County Public Library locations will serve as sites for Vision To Learn mobile clinics in June and July to provide eye exams and glasses – free of charge – for children ages 5-18.

The national nonprofit Vision To Learn has visited Cobb libraries during summer breaks since 2018 to serve kids in need of vision care and glasses for school and life. Almost 500 children received glasses through the 2023 clinics at CCPL locations. Close to 1500 children have received glasses from Vision To Learn at Cobb County libraries over the past six years.

Registration for VTL appointments is required – and space is limited. To register, go to https://bit.ly/Cobb_County

Summertime is for Libraries

The Vision To Learn/Cobb Library partnership is called a national model by VTL for expanding its eyecare service to public libraries across the United States. Since 2018, Vision To Learn – Georgia has provided over 5000 eye exams and more than 3400 eyeglasses to children at public library locations in metro Atlanta, VTL officials said.

The Vision To Learn visits are part of the Cobb County Public Library’s collaboration with Learn4Life, Metro Atlanta Regional Education Partnership for students’ success to make the region a more equitable and prosperous community. Vision To Learn is promoted as a Bright Spot for Early Literacy by L4L for its proven success in improving children’s outcomes.

“Receiving glasses provides the equivalent of 2-6 months of additional learning and can help prevent dropout and juvenile delinquency,” Learn4Life reported. “Since their launch, VTL has provided over 25,000 glasses to metro Atlanta students free of charge.”

Vision To Learn is primarily based at schools. Locally, the Vision To Learn partnership at Marietta City Schools launched in October 2021 has resulted in more than 11,500 screens, over 2100 exams and VTL has provided 1792 glasses to MCS students.
