Juvenile Court System and school administrators to work together for better results
(Aug. 21, 2019 - Marietta, GA) Earlier today Cobb Juvenile Court Judges hosted a breakfast meeting to meet principals and administrators of Cobb and Marietta School Systems to establish a collaborative partnership. More than 75 people attended the hourlong meeting to better address disruptive behaviors in the classroom and reduce school delinquency.
“This is Juvenile Court’s effort to create collaboration between schools and the juvenile court system,” said Cobb Juvenile Court Judge Wayne E. Grannis. “We’re in a partnership to provide the best possible service to children and families in Cobb County.” Chief Juvenile Court Judge Amber Patterson, Judge Jeffrey D. Hamby and Judge Kareem West were in attendance and answered questions after the meeting.
In 2018, Cobb Juvenile Court received about 4,000 filings which included dependency and delinquency cases. In his presentation, Adolphus Graves who is the court administrator for the Cobb Juvenile Court, highlighted the many programs that are available including multi-systemic therapy, mentoring, drug treatment programs, counseling and specialized academic programming. The goal is to build partnerships between the court system, law enforcement agencies and school administrators while reducing school delinquency and providing better opportunities for at-risk youth.
According to Sherri Hill, chief of the School Leadership Office from the Cobb Superintendent’s office, the event was awesome. “We want to thank you for sharing what the system can do to support our students because as we know, it takes a village. We want to work together and provide better support for our students.”
