Update, June 30: Registration is closed for the July 2023 on-site Vision To Learn clinics at Cobb County libraries. We look forward to the trained and licensed eye care professionals of Vision To Learn continuing to deliver this vital, life-changing service to hundreds of Cobb children this summer and to the upcoming VTL summers ahead.

Eight July dates have been added to the Vision To Learn summer break calendar of on-site mobile clinics at Cobb County Public Library locations.

Vision To Learn provides eye exams and prescription glasses – free of charge to the children and their families – for students ages 5 to 18. The sixth summer of VTL at Cobb libraries is reaching significantly more children than last year’s record of almost 400 exams resulting in more than 250 students receiving prescription glasses.

Even with the added capacity for Vision To Learn appointment slots, officials say Vision To Learn is a popular program with registration required and space limited. The registration form for July is at forms.gle/jwQnrSMG5S3AZza36.

“The Vision To Learn professional teams and our Cobb library colleagues work tirelessly and efficiently to strive to close the vision care gap in the community,” said Tom Brooks, Cobb library communications specialist and an organizer of the VTL clinics. “This is life-changing work backed by many community partners supporting Cobb students’ success in school and in life.”

“While the number of Vision To Learn clinics appears impressive – and it is – we expect the appointments will continue to fill up fast,” Brooks added, “so parents and caregivers should act soon to request appointments and be certain they can follow-through with getting to the appointments so as many children as possible can be served.”

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved in February $264,000 of the county’s federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation to support Vision To Learn clinics at Cobb libraries over the next four summers. The Cobb BOC also approved $247,800 for Vision To Learn’s partnership with Marietta City Schools, also for four years.
