Cobb's Board of Commissioners approved an agenda item on March 14, 2023, clearing the way for the submittal of the Power-Hyde Historic District (commonly known as Hyde Farm) to the National Register of Historic Places.

Hyde Farm is a historic farmstead located at the end of Hyde Road in East Cobb. One side of the farm runs along the Chattahoochee River. Farmed by only two families from the 1830s until 2004, Hyde Farm is a significant historic resource that demonstrates the agrarian lifestyle and agricultural practices that were prevalent in Cobb County during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Power family originally settled on the farm in the 1830s, and then it was purchased by the Hyde family in 1920. Two Hyde brothers remained on the farm until Buck Hyde passed away in 1987. The remaining brother, JC, sold 40.2 acres to the Trust for Public Land (TPL). JC Hyde passed away in 2004. TPL purchased the remaining 95 acres in 2008. Cobb County purchased the farmstead and approximately 40 acres; the rest went to the National Park Service as part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area. Cobb was able to purchase two adjacent properties for visitor services and parking, so these uses would not impact the farm.

Cobb PARKS lovingly and accurately restored the farm in 2013. A community garden, operation, and storage barn have since been added outside the historic farm area. The Hyde Farm Park is currently used for educational purposes, providing opportunities to learn the history of farming since the 1800s, classes and summer camps, programming by our Natural Resources unit, and events such as the annual Fishing Rodeo and serene green space for citizens to enjoy. A monthly walking tour of Hyde Farm is offered on the second Saturday of each month. Information on the tour can be found here. Hyde Farm is a Cobb County treasure and the historic registration will ensure it is preserved for generations to come.
