Marriage License
Any Georgia resident may apply for a license in any county in Georgia. However, if neither applicant is a resident of Georgia, you may only obtain your license in the county where the ceremony is performed. The license does not have an expiration date.

Vital Records
Vital records and vital events are defined as birth, death, fetal deaths (stillbirth), induced termination of pregnancy, marriage and divorce certificates and reports. Georgia Code Chapter 31-10, and Georgia Department of Public Health Regulation 511-1-3 specify the scope and authority of the Georgia vital records program.

Common Probate Court Fees
All filing fees (including service fees) must be paid upon filing the petition with the Probate Court. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. §15-9-60(d), pleadings may be filed with a minimum deposit of $30.00. Please be advised that, while the deposit will ensure that your pleading is filed, the Court shall not process the pleading until payment of the filing fee is made in full. The Probate Court will accept cash, money orders, credit cards ($2.00 service fee or 3.5% , whichever is higher, will be assessed on all credit card transactions - $5.00 cap on all Estate filings), or personal checks made payable to "Cobb County Probate Court.”

Is my first marriage certificate free of charge?
The Probate Court of Cobb County DOES NOT provide a complimentary copy of the marriage certificate after recording the marriage license. Copies may be purchased online, here.

Does the marriage certificate get sent out automatically?
No, Marriage Certificates ARE NOT sent out automatically. A fee of $10.00 is required when requesting a Marriage Certificate. Marriage Certificates can be ordered online at our website; in-person at our office Monday thru Friday 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. at 32 Waddell St Marietta, GA 30090, or via a mail-in request.
