Atkins Reappointment
August 2, 2019

Statement on behalf of Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan Murphy

This afternoon, I reappointed Joseph B. Atkins, Esq. to the Cobb County Board of Ethics.

Mr. Atkins has served on the Board since 2015. He was initially selected by Cobb County employees and then reappointed by former Chief Magistrate Joyette Holmes. Mr. Atkins was recently elected by his peers on the Board of Ethics to serve as Chair, where he served until his appointment temporarily lapsed upon Judge Holmes being sworn in as District Attorney earlier this month.

Mr. Atkins is a skilled attorney with over thirty years of legal experience. Between stints in the private sector, he served with distinction as a member of the Cobb County Attorney’s Office for over a decade. Mr. Atkins is active in the community, including having provided leadership in a local Boy Scout Troop, the Rotary Club of Marietta, and his place of worship. He is a two-time graduate of the University of Georgia, earning both his undergraduate and law degrees in Athens.

Mr. Atkins has an excellent reputation for hard work, professionalism, and ethical conduct. With his qualifications and demeanor, I know Joe will continue to serve the people of Cobb County well. Thanks, Joe!
