New group of appointees join county boards

County commissioners approved the appointment of 14 residents to various Cobb boards and authorities during their regular meeting March 9.

Chairwoman Lisa Cupid nominated a dozen, filling spots on numerous entities that provide recommendations and decisions on behalf of the commissioners and county government.

Tina Clark will join the Recreation Board for a term to expire in March 2026. The Recreation Board provides, conducts and supervises public playgrounds, playfields, indoor recreation centers and other county recreation facilities.

Jan Galt was nominated to the Cemetery Preservation Commission for a concurrent term to expire in December 2024. The commission formulates a county-wide preservation plan to include determining the status and needs of each cemetery and establish public guidelines regarding their upkeep.

Trey Spivey was appointed to the Property Advisory Commission, which studies and makes recommendations for the future development, use and sale of county owned property. Spivey will serve a concurrent term to expire in December 2024.

Stephen Vault will become a member of the Planning Commission, which advises the Board of Commissioners in the administration and enforcement of county zoning. His concurrent term will expire in December 2024.

Barkley Russell was nominated to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a concurrent term to expire in December 2024. This board decides appeals when someone claims errors in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance. It also determines special exceptions and grants variances where warranted.

Enrico Washington was appointed to the Airport Advisory Board, which advises Cobb County concerning the future development and use of the airport. Washington will serve a two-year term to expire in December 2022.

Nick Marine will join the Plumbing Advisory Board for a concurrent term to expire in December 2024. The board reviews and makes recommendations on matters referred to it by the county board of adjustments and appeals as well as provides technical advice on county inspections department operations.

Wilmark Harris will become a member of the One Percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Citizens' Oversight Committee. This body helps ensure the county is accountable for the funds generated by the SPLOST program and implement projects in a timely and effective manner. Harris' concurrent term will expire in December 2024.

Both Matthew Stigall and Lasandra Boykin were nominated to to the Transit System Advisory Board for a concurrent term to expire in December 2024. This board advises the county commissioners in enhancing public transportation for Cobb.

Dale Bercher joins the Home Builders Advisory Board for a concurrent term to expire in December 2024. The board reviews and recommends on matters referred to it by the Board of Adjustments and Appeals. It provides technical advice on the Building Inspections Department operations and assists in reviewing and recommending any necessary changes to the Cobb County Building Code.

James Battle was reappointed to the Heating and Air Conditioning Advisory Board. The board reviews and makes recommendations on matters referred to it by the county Board of Adjustments and Appeals, providing technical advice on county inspections department operations. Battle's concurrent term will expire in December 2024.

Commissioner Keli Gambrill appointed Jimi Richards to the Cemetery Preservation Commission for a term to expire in December 2022.  

Commissioner JoAnn K. Birrell nominated Wynn McCurdy for reappointment to the Recreation Board for a term to expire in March 2026.
