Fatal Traffic Collision

The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on South Cobb Drive at Leader Road on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 5:24 a.m. 

According to investigators, a 2020 Tesla Model 3 traveled north on South Cobb Drive, approaching Leader Road when the driver lost control on the wet roadway. The Tesla Model 3 began to spin, before leaving the roadway and traveling across the sidewalk. The Tesla Model 3 collided with a Cobb Transit Service bus shelter and an adult male who was inside the shelter. The Tesla Model 3 then continued down a grass embankment where it came to a final uncontrolled rest.

The driver of the Tesla Model 3, 37-year-old Demarco M. Hill of Austell, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The male inside the Cobb Transit Service bus shelter was fatally injured and pronounced deceased on the scene; his name is being withheld, pending the next of kin's notification.
