Water Education Green School Initiative

The goal of the Green School Initiative is to recognize schools in Cobb County that have an active environmental education and outdoor learning program and to encourage teachers to facilitate ecological enrichment and appreciation for the natural world with their students.  Green Schools are recognized annually with a sign noting the school as GREEN, SILVER, GOLD or PLATINUM level for the participating year. 

Forms & Applications

Become A Green School

  1. School designates a Lead Teacher.
  2. Lead Teacher fills out a Green School application.
  3. Cobb Water will send confirmation to the school’s lead teacher with program details.
  4. Lead teacher coordinates school participation. 
  5. Lead teacher ensures activity logs are submitted by the deadline (March 29, 2024).
  6. Award level designations will be announced and signs delivered before the end of the school year

    Become a Green Teacher:

    1. Facilitate 5 green lessons.  Lessons must include one taught outdoors and one Blue Earth Practice.
    2. Submit lesson documentation (activity log) before the deadline.

    Award Level Designations:

    Green School award level is determined by the percentage of teachers in the school who qualify as Green Teachers. 

    • Platinum:  50% of teachers 
    • Gold:  40% of teachers
    • Silver:  30% of teachers
    • Green:  20% of teachers

    Gold level designation:
    Addison Elementary, Baker Elementary, Bells Ferry Elementary, Blackwell Elementary, Cheatham Hill Elementary, Compton Elementary, Davis Elementary, East Side Elementary, Ford Elementary, Frey Elementary, King Springs Elementary, Lewis Elementary, McCall Primary, McCleskey Middle, Murdock Elementary, Nickajack Elementary, Shallowford Falls Elementary, Timber Ridge Elementary, Tritt Elementary, Vaughan Elementary

    Silver level designation:
    Bullard Elementary, Chalker Elementary, Clarkdale Elementary, Daniell Middle, Simpson Middle, Still Elementary

    Green level designation:
    Austell Elementary, Cooper Middle, The Garden School of Marietta, Hillgrove High, Keheley Elementary.

    These designations represent the work of 517 teachers reporting 2,585 environmental education lessons, during 3,213 instructional hours, to 29,548 students.
