Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Visual Monitoring Workshop
About this event
The Stream Habitat and Visual Survey Workshop is intended to train volunteers how to assess a stream by rating parameters such as channel bottom materials, sinuosity, bank stability, streamside vegetation, and more. Stream habitat includes the physical and chemical conditions of the ecosystem and plays a large role in the aquatic life you will find. By conducting the visual survey and cross-section, you will be able to quantitatively document the condition of the stream habitat and the riparian zone at that given point in time. When conducting these surveys on a quarterly basis, any changes in the stream’s health will be apparent in your data.
Participants do not need to be currently active or certified in the Adopt-A-Stream monitoring program to participate in this workshop, but should bring a good sense of humor and a willingness to share thoughts and ideas about assessing a stream. Please bring water, snacks, and dress for the weather, sunscreen, hats, jacket etc. If possible, waterproof boots. The Watershed Stewardship Program has a limited supply and sizes of water boots to loan for this workshop.
