As a real estate agent, your clients are always looking to find the most value for their money. Whether it’s buying a home designed to save them money on utilities, or fitting their home with new technology to increase its value. Equipping a home with modern, money-saving water conservation technology and appliances can certainly make a home more valuable and desirable. Not only does water conservation help the environment, but will reduce a homeowner’s water bill. What can your clients do before selling their homes to increase the water value? What should they look for in a house that could save them money on their water bill? 

Bathrooms are often a deal maker, or breaker, for a buyer. The bathroom is also one of the easiest, least expensive ways for a seller to make money-saving improvements in their house. Repairing or replacing a leaking toilet, or replacing bathroom faucets and showerheads with WaterSense labeled versions, is a quick and easy way to update a bathroom. One of the biggest water users in the home is the toilet. Replacing older high flow toilets with high-efficiency EPA WaterSense labeled toilets can reduce water used for toilets by 20 to 60 percent—that's nearly 13,000 gallons of water savings for your home every year! They could also save more than $140 per year in water costs, and $2,900 over the lifetime of the toilets. If your client is/will be a Cobb County Water System Customer, we offer a $100 per toilet rebate for replacing toilets. Many homes have outdoor irrigation systems, which can result in a tremendous loss of water and money if not properly maintained. Even small, pin-hole sized leaks can lead to hundreds of dollars a year of wasted water. Prior to selling or purchasing a home, have the irrigation system inspected by a certified irrigation auditor and repair or replace damaged and leaking parts. Installing a weather-based irrigation controller, a micro irrigation system, and smart sprinkler heads, will show prospective buyers they can have a beautiful yard with savings on their water bill for years to come.
