Pedestrian Safety

Pete's Street Smarts

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) received grant funding from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to create the Cobb County Pedestrian Safety Campaign. In partnership with the Cobb County Safety VillageSafe Kids Cobb CountyCobb & Douglas Public Health; and Mock, The Agency, CCDOT has developed “Pete’s Street Smarts,” an animated short that highlights what to do and what not to do when traveling as a pedestrian.

As part of the campaign, students who visit the Safety Village will view the video and take a post-test to exhibit retention of key safety messages such as the importance of avoiding distractions from devices when crossing roads. The goal of the campaign is to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities through early encouragement of safe walking habits for youth in Cobb County and Georgia at large, where pedestrian deaths are up 37 percent over the past two years.
