State Road & Tollway Authority Announces Grant for Old 41 Highway Project
The State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) recently awarded Cobb DOT $750,000 under its Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) grant program for the Old 41 Highway project.
Since inception, GTIB has provided over $125 million in grants and loans to highly competitive transportation projects that have enhanced mobility and driven economic development in local communities throughout Georgia.
“GTIB was created for projects like [this], which improve mobility, spur economic development and enable local communities to thrive,” according to David Cassell, SRTA’s Strategic Programs Administrator.
This funding was awarded to assist with construction of Cobb DOT’s Old 41 Highway project. This project consists of roadway safety and operational improvements on Old 41 Highway from Kennesaw Avenue to Stilesboro Road. This project also includes shifting the existing alignment of this portion of Old 41 Highway.
“Not only will this project reduce congestion and increase safety for pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic, shifting the road a little to the north will reconnect Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield lands and revitalize this greenspace,” said Cobb DOT Director Erica Parish.
The final details for the project are still in development and Cobb DOT will hold public meetings to get input before a final concept is put forward.
