Resurfacing I-285 in Cobb, Fulton Scheduled to Begin in October
Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation will install lane closures on I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Long Island Road in Fulton County related to a resurfacing project, scheduled to begin in October 2024. This project will include maintenance activities on six miles of I-285 to improve the viability of the roadway materials and provide a smoother ride and enhanced lane striping for drivers.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, crews will install overnight and weekend lane closures. Resurfacing activities require the use of heavy equipment in the roadway. Lane closures help ensure safety for workers and drivers but may cause traffic delays. During the closures, drivers should plan alternate routes and/or allow additional travel times. This maintenance project is scheduled for completion in fall 2025.
As always, motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds in the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
