Monday Classes

Creative Pottery Hand Building #7488

January 28 - March 11 (no class February 18)

9:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

$36 Cobb resident; $41 Non-resident; Plus $25 supply fee

Instructor: Kristen Smith

In this creative pottery class, you will be responsible for maintaining, rolling and wedging your clay. Bring the  project ideas you would like to work on during this 6-week session. Wear clothing you will not mind getting slightly dirty.

Foundations of Pottery Hand Building #7489

Learn how to create your slab-built clay projects!  Learn the basics of working with clay and various basic glazing techniques. Wear clothing you do not mind getting slightly dirty and join us for some creative fun.

MOVE #7495

MOVE is a combination class of functional movements for the beginner exerciser, as well as the regularly active adult. It incorporates gentle barre and dance movements, simple yoga flow, and breathing techniques and use of music to promote a motivating, and emotionally uplifting environment.

Tai Chi-Qigong #7499

Tai Chi emphasizes complete relaxation and is essentially a form of “meditation in motion”. Qigong ( “chee-gung”) is the Chinese philosophy and practice of aligning breath, physical activity and awareness, for improved mental and physical health and increased energy. This class is great for joints, stretching, flexibility, and movement. Suitable for all fitness levels.

Always wanted to learn a second language? Now is your chance! This class will meet twice a week and in just 6 short weeks you will develop basic oral and written communication skills and be well on your way to speaking Spanish!

Beginner Yoga #7606

Our beginner yoga approaches postures in gradual steps, with plenty of time to focus on breathing and repetition so that the practice is simple to do and easy to remember. This gentle yoga style meets students “where they are.” All fitness levels welcome. Please bring yoga mat to class.

Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create a low impact aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. No previous experience required. The intensity of the moves can be modified to accommodate new students and those with previous experience.

Precious Metals Clay Jewelry I #7490

Precious metal clay is a crafting medium consisting of very small particles of silver, gold, bronze, or copper mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewelry, beads and small sculptures which are then fired in a kiln. During this class you will complete a pendant, pair of earrings, and one item of your choice.

Painting with Acrylics #7492

Discover the excitement of painting freely while learning acrylic technique tips along the way. This class is an excellent opportunity to be creative. Several paintings will be completed depending on individual speed and level of detail.  This is a good opportunity for returning artists to further develop their personal style, improve color, and design skills.  All levels welcome; no previous experience necessary.

Famous Crimes #7498

January 17 – March 7

Notorious and widely publicized crimes of all time will be examined during this class. All cases are approached as a cautionary tale of what can be learned from the mistakes of the victims by looking at the behavior of the criminal. Contemporary and historical crimes will be discussed.

Urban Soul Line Dance #7494

Acoustic Guitar #7493

Learn the basics of playing acoustic guitar in a casual setting. Topics covered include how to tune your instrument, basic chords and strumming techniques. Shingles Vaccine: Do I Need It? #6334

Free; registration required

Priti Kolhe, District Immunization Director with Cobb and Douglas Public Health, will discuss the shingles (herpes zoster) virus, as well as the effectiveness of vaccination against it.  Other vaccines that could reduce the risk of complications from preventable diseases for people 60+ will also be discussed.
