The East Cobb Park is a prime example of residents and county government working together. The Friends of the East Cobb Park conducted a fund raising campaign to purchase the land for the 13 acre park.

Cobb County government helped with some funding and a partnership was born. The park has become one of the most heavily used parks in our system. A combination of slate and natural surface walking trails encompasses the park. Pavilions, open grass areas, creek overlooks and a playground offer the visitor hours of enjoyment.

For information on The Friends for East Cobb Park, see their website at eastcobbpark.org. You will find upcoming events, newsletters, and opportunities to become involved with this community group.

Hyde Farm Park

726 Hyde Road
Marietta, GA  30068

The Hyde Farm Park, located just off of Lower Roswell Road in East Cobb, is 42 acres of green space and a  renovated/updated  farm established in the 1830's. The land, farm, and buildings have been preserved as an educational and recreational facility. Named “one of the great treasures of Cobb County” by Cobb County Commissioner Bob Ott. “The drive down scenic Hyde Road cannot prepare you for your journey back in time. As you walk along the terrace gardens past the old farmhouse, or drink from the working well, it is hard to imagine that just a short distance away is East Cobb. It is hard to imagine long ago when all of East Cobb was like Hyde.”

Programs Offered

  • Nature programs
  • Fishing pond
  • Trails
  • Community Gardens

The Hyde brothers were the last in a long line of family farmers in what was rural East Cobb County. The Hyde property, located at the end of the road named for them, Hyde Road, runs off Lower Roswell Road. It is now owned by Cobb County government who have allocated a piece of land and have partnered with the Cobb Master Gardeners to create the brand new Hyde Farm Community Garden. The space is completely fenced with irrigation available and is comprised of 40 garden plots measuring 4 ft. by 8 ft. eac

Northwest Cobb

Allatoona Creek Park

5690 Old Stilesboro Road
Acworth, GA  30101

(Formerly Corps property)

Located in the northwest portion of Cobb County, this property consists of 1450 acres leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Large open fields give way to forest as the property connects to Lake Allatoona. Two creeks (Little Allatoona & Big Allatoona) merge as you near the lake. The property is home to a vast array of wildlife as ground nesting birds, birds of prey, deer, fox, bobcat and other mammals as well as reptiles reside on site. The land is managed to accommodate all species of wildlife with archery hunting for deer allowed during season. The park is open for public use except during hunting season.

Among these 1450 acres are several wetland areas. These wetland areas are of vital importantace to the diverse fauna and flora that calls this property home.

The park also has several miles of trails that are available for walking, jogging and mountain biking. There is also gravel parking area with a restroom facility available. You can download a trail map here. Here are the trails you can find at the Corp Property:

Turtle Back Connector - .4 Miles (Beginner)
The Turtle Back Connector is a doubletrack bi-directional flat trail that starts out of the main parking lot and crosses Old Stilesboro Rd. The trail features two large bridges that cross Little Allatoona Creek and a section of wetland that houses nesting Herons.

Turtle Back Loop - 4 Miles (Intermediate)
The Turtle Back Loop is a fast flowing singletrack trail with fun features and a few tight turns thrown in to keep you on your toes. The trail attributes include: several rock features, multiple bridges, berms and dips. The degree of difficulty is beginner/intermediate. The Turtle Back Loop has beginner elevations with intermediate features making it a good choice for beginners with improved skills and conditioning.

Turtle Back Spur - 1.3 Miles (Intermediate)
The Turtle Back Spur is 1.3 mile loop that extends off the Turtle Back Loop. The spur has more elevation than the loop with faster flowing sections and heart pumping climbs.

Rusty Bucket Loop - 1 Mile (Beginner)
The Rusty Bucket is relatively flat singletrack trail that has lots of tight and twisty sections that weave in and out of a new growth pine thicket. The trail gets its name from the hundreds of old paint buckets that were found when building the trail.

Mason's Bridge Connector - .4 Miles (Beginner)
The Mason's Bridge Connector joins the Rusty Bucket and Mason's Bridge Loop. This trail is a double track sewer easement that parallels Allatoona Creek and travels under the Bridge on County Line Rd.

Mason's Bridge Loop - 5 Miles (Intermediate)
Mason's Bridge is a fast flowing singletrack trail with lots of dips and turns. The trail borders a large wetland and multiple rock outcroppings. The trail is made up of two loops, the first loop is 3 miles and the second loop is 2 miles.

Whipper Snapper - 1/2 Mile (Expert Only)
Whipper Snapper is a 1/2 mile skill trail that features expert features such as: rock gardens, rock crawls, ladder bridges, log rides, drops and gap jumps.

Future Planning
Plans have been drawn for a total of 20 miles of mixed use trail in the park with the first phase complete and open for mountain biking, hiking, and running. There will be four single track systems that branch out from the main parking lot. The park will also have a centralized running trail that will be used for cross country running, walking, and beginner biking. The degree of difficulty for the trails will vary from beginner to advanced. A skills area is also planned for the park.

Master Plan

Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs has completed the master planning process for the Green Meadows Preserve (formerly Bullard-Stockton Property), located in west Cobb at Dallas Highway and Old Hamilton Road.

View the Master Plan here (updated 9-22-09)

Brief History

Formerly known as the Bullard-Stockton property, the 112 acre Green Meadows Preserve was purchased by Cobb County in 2008 with funds from the 2006 Parks Bond Referendum. The Bullard family bought and farmed the property until the late 1900’s.  Originally it was part of a 400 acre plantation owned by William and Piety Green. The site saw action in the Civil War Civil War. The National Trail of Tears Association has designated Green Meadows as a historical and educational Interpretive Site on the Trail of Tears Historic National Trail.

For information about the park and future plans, see the 'Friends of Green Meadows' website at greenmeadowspreserve.org.
