Mable House Harvest Festival
Mableton, GA – As autumn’s crisp embrace settles over Cobb County, a cherished tradition is set to return, bringing with it a whirlwind of nostalgic charm and family-friendly excitement. Cobb PARKS is thrilled to announce the revival of the Mable House Harvest Festival on October 12th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This delightful event, sponsored by the Friends of the Mable House, offers a unique opportunity to step back into the 19th century and experience farm life as it once was.
Imagine a day where history and fun blend seamlessly—where you can watch the artistry of blacksmithing and pottery, delve into the age-old craft of pickling, or see weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations. From hand-spun yarn to butter churning and Johnny Cakes, every corner of the festival provides a glimpse into the daily routines of 1800s farmers.
For animal lovers, Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo promises heartwarming encounters with a variety of friendly farm animals. And for those looking to expand their family, Cobb County Animal Services will be on hand with furry friends waiting for a loving home.
As you wander through the festival grounds, let the melodic strains of the award-winning bluegrass band End of the Line soothe your soul. Or perhaps the energetic rhythms of Jerry G. White’s percussion performance will get your toes tapping. Bring a favorite chair or cozy blanket to settle in and enjoy the show.
For those with a creative streak, there are plenty of hands-on activities to dive into. From crafting candles and stamping letters to making cornhusk dolls, there’s something for everyone to try. Challenge yourself with the laundry maze or join in on classic games like potato sack races, three-legged races, hoop rolling, and the historic game of graces.
Garden enthusiasts, take note! The festival will host its inaugural seed swap, organized by the Georgia Native Plant Society and Keep Cobb Beautiful. It’s the perfect chance to exchange heirloom seeds, swap gardening tips, and connect with fellow green thumbs.
Families with young children are in for a treat at the Sweet Potato House. The South Cobb Regional Library will be offering engaging crafts and story time sessions, while the Cobb Bookmobile provides a treasure trove of books for all ages.
No visit to the festival would be complete without a tour of the historic Mable House, a proud member of the National Register of Historic Places. And when hunger strikes, savor delicious fare from the South Cobb Lions Club—hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, and drinks—or indulge in sweet treats from the Girl Scouts and Penny’s Candies.
Join us on October 12th for a day of merriment and tradition, celebrating local history and the beauty of the harvest season. The Mable House Harvest Festival is more than just an event; it’s a heartwarming journey through time and a fantastic day out for the whole family. Don’t miss out on this timeless celebration!
