What is a seed library?

Cobb County Public Library’s Seed Library is a system-wide, community-based initiative designed to promote local gardening, sustainable food practices, and biodiversity preservation by enabling people to get seeds designed to grow in our region.
It is a portable catalog of seed packets that is organized by seed type with fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Patrons may take up to 3 packets per day for use in home gardens and landscapes.
How do I know which seeds will grow in my yard?
Cobb Libraries have resources to help you determine what plants will work in your landscape or garden. Each plant type has different growing needs in terms of light, space needs, and soil conditions. Seeds that are in mass-produced envelopes typically have this information on the packet, but you can also find it online at almanac.com and extension.uga.edu as well as in books you can check out from the library.
Where can I find the Seed Library?
Our Seed Library will travel throughout the library system. Check our social media and this webpage for dates that the Seed Library will be in a branch near you!
February 3, 2025: The traveling seed libraries can be found at Gritters, Sewell Mill, South Cobb, Switzer, and West Cobb libraries.

We can accept donations of new, unopened seed packets. Seeds should be labeled clearly with plant variety, date of harvest, and any other relevant information. Donations can be dropped off at any of our libraries. Thank you!
