The best art inspires more art. In this workshop, we will explore examples of ekphrastic poetry and discuss techniques for writing poems inspired by various forms of art with poet Valerie A. Smith. Participants will have the opportunity to compose and share their own ekphrastic poems.

Valerie A. Smith’s poetry appears in Aunt Chloe: A Journal of Artful CandorTypehouse MagazineOyster River Pages, Wayne Literary ReviewObsidianSolstice Auburn AvenueSouth 85,  and BlazeVox.  She was selected as a 2022 Tennessee Williams Scholar at the Suwanee Writers Conference. Her first full length poetry book, Back to Alabama, will be published in 2023.
