Ballot Drop Boxes FAQs
How do I know the Drop Box is an Official Cobb County Absentee Ballot Drop Box?
Cobb County’s Ballot Drop Boxes are posted with legally-required signage stating who can transport another person’s ballot. The distinctive red, white and blue paint design and lettering affirm that it is an Official Cobb County Absentee Ballot Drop Box.
Are these Absentee Ballot Drop Boxes secure and under surveillance?
Yes. All 16 Ballot Drop Boxes are located outside Cobb County government facilities and are securely fastened to the concrete. They are a secure design made specifically to accept and secure ballots. The boxes are structurally designed to minimize tampering or removal of ballots and they are all under video surveillance 24 hours per day.
How do I insert my ballot into the Absentee Ballot Drop Box?
The voter will need to push the metal door directly under “Insert Ballot” and insert one ballot at a time. There is a ballot-sized slot for the ballot to fit into. The ballot should not be folded and put into the slot; it will not fit.
When are the ballots removed from the Absentee Ballot Drop Boxes?
The Ballot Drop Boxes are emptied as required by law. Prior to the second Monday before Election Day, the ballots must be collected at least once every 72 hours. Beginning on the second Monday before Election Day and up until 7pm on Election Day, the ballots must be collected at least every 24 hours.
Who is responsible for removing the ballots from the Absentee Ballot Drop Boxes?
Two sworn County Elections Employees empty and secure the ballots. Pick up times and ballot counts are tracked on daily ballot transfer sheets. The ballots are brought to our off-site office and processed.

Absentee Ballot FAQs
Is the Issue Date the day my ballot was mailed?
No. the Issue Date is the day we processed the application and requested that a ballot be mailed. The ballots are being printed on demand, packaged and mailed by a vendor. The vendor receives a file of issue requests twice a week, so it may take up to two weeks from the Issue Date for you to receive the ballot in the mail. This process will continue until October 16, after which Cobb Elections staff will resume the duties of packaging and mailing the ballots.
How much postage is required to return a voted ballot through the mail?
One Forever 55¢ stamp is sufficient for all ballot packages, except in Gwinnett County which requires 70¢ postage. If you have any further questions or concerns involving postage, we recommend that you contact your local Post Office.
How do I know my Absentee Ballot was counted?
By tracking your Absentee Ballot, you will see when the ballot is received by the Elections Office. Once the ballot has a received date, it has been accepted for counting. All ballots received by 7PM EST on Election Day will be counted. Make sure that you have signed the oath on the outer envelope so your ballot can be counted.
Cancel Your Ballot
If you desire to cancel your Absentee Ballot, please print and complete the Affidavit of Cancelled Absentee Ballot. Please note, once ballot has been received by the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration Office, it can no longer be cancelled.
