Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Crimes Against Child in Cobb County
(Marietta, GA - August 28, 2024) Cobb County District Attorney Flynn D. Broady, Jr. announces that Wolford Hunter Kilgore, 54, pled guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, and child molestation on August 16, 2024.
Cobb County Superior Court Judge Julie Adams Jacobs sentenced Kilgore to a total of 40 years, with the first 15 years to be served in prison without the possibility of parole. The remaining 25 years will be served on probation. As part of his sentencing, Kilgore is prohibited from having any contact with the victim. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
In May 2020, the underaged victim disclosed to authorities that the defendant had been engaging in inappropriate contact, including touching, and molesting her at his home in Kennesaw. The victim provided a detailed account of multiple incidents that took place over 18 months.
Cobb County Police SVU detectives, with the assistance of Kennesaw police, were immediately assigned to the case and conducted a thorough forensic interview with the victim. She described a pattern of escalating touching and molestation.
Kilgore admitted to the charges while at Kennestone Hospital. His confessions aligned closely with the victim's account provided to police, further substantiating the victim’s detailed disclosures during her interview.
On Friday, August 16, during a non-negotiated plea, Judge Julie Adams Jacobs sentenced Kilgore to a total of 40 years, with the first 15 years to be served in prison without the possibility of parole.
“I want to commend the courage of the victim in coming forward and the hard work of our team and law enforcement partners in bringing this case to a successful conclusion,” said District Attorney Flynn D. Broady, Jr.
Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Raynor prosecuted the case on behalf of the State. The defendant was represented by Kim Keheley Frye.
