National Weather Service forecasters say the odds have increased for severe weather in the Cobb County area overnight.  An approaching storm front is expected to carry with it high winds, hail, and possibly some tornadoes.

The area of most concern remains off to the west but has moved closer to the Cobb County area.  The window for severe weather opens this evening, but peaks between 5 and 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Because this could be a pre-dawn event, please make sure you have a couple of weather warning methods available to your household and make sure your phone’s batteries are charged.

Cobb EMA will be monitoring the system, and we do have a robust network of tornado sirens in the county.  However, you should not rely on these sirens as a warning device in your home because in tree-laden Cobb County these sirens can often be hard to hear inside a house.

Cobb DOT has crews on standby tonight to respond to any reported storm damage or road closures and to deal with isolated road flooding that could occur.

If conditions are dangerous before sunrise, please avoid venturing out on the roads.
