Precinct 6 Opens to Serve North-Central Cobb

Marietta, GA — Cobb County Board of Commissioners members joined a large contingent of police officers to cut the ribbon on the county’s sixth police precinct. Cobb Police Precinct 6 will serve the north-central portion of the county.

“This is a long-awaited dream coming true,” said District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, who thanked fellow board members and the county’s public safety departments for helping bring the project to fruition.
“This precinct will house the officers who serve this area, and they will be much closer to the residents they protect,” Birrell told the crowd at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Precinct 6 is located just off Sandy Plains Road, next to the Mountain View Aquatic Center, and is roughly halfway between Precincts 1 and 4. The $8.2 million project was part of the county’s 2016 SPLOST program.
Public Safety Director Mike Register said the new precinct will help reduce the size of police beats across Cobb and prepare the department for continued population growth.

“When you need law enforcement, you need it quickly,” Register said. “This new precinct will let us focus on a smaller population and better understand how to serve this community.”
The new facility already houses the Police Department’s DUI Task Force. Initially, it will be staffed by an officer and administrative personnel, allowing residents to file or retrieve police reports and complete vehicle VIN checks.
Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer said detectives and additional units would be assigned once the department finalizes which beats will operate out of the new precinct.
