Joyette Holmes sworn in as Cobb District Attorney

July 1, 2019 ¬– In front of a crowd of supporters, Joyette Holmes took the oath of office this morning as Cobb District Attorney. Gov. Brian Kemp administered the oath at the Cobb Superior Courthouse.

“This moment of being sworn in as the next District Attorney for the Cobb Judicial Circuit will not be taken for granted,” Holmes said. “I will work tirelessly to honor Governor Kemp’s confidence in me to do the job, to make proud the advocates in my life who always remind me, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and to gain the support and trust of all whom I come to meet throughout the journey.”

Former DA Vic Reynolds was appointed to lead the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in February, creating the vacancy. John Melvin served as acting DA in the interim. Holmes served as an assistant district attorney under DA Reynolds until 2015, when she was tapped to be Cobb’s Chief Magistrate.

Today, Holmes said, “I am looking forward to beginning this new chapter and working with the great women and men of the District Attorney’s Office who have vowed to continue the task of keeping our communities safe. I am also excited to collaborate with organizations in the community who are committed to being proactive in the fight against crime and those willing to be a resource when appropriate.”
