Cobb DOT Prepares for SNOW! (VIDEO)

Cobb DOT Inclement Weather Exercise
December 3, 2018

Marietta, GA -- Cobb DOT crews fanned out across the county to run their routes as if snow was expected in Cobb.  Fortunately, it is not (yet), but the crews ran routes that would cover 800 miles of Cobb roadways that would need to be treated if winter weather was predicted.  Road Maintenance Division Manager Bill Shelton said this year's drill was especially important because;

  • The new budget allowed for the hiring of new DOT workers to clean and clear right-of-ways.  These crews can work inclement weather emergencies but need to learn the equipment and procedures.
  • They usually hold these exercises around Christmas, but last year an early December snowfall dumped a foot of snow on parts of Cobb.  So the earlier, the better!
  • Things change, so the feedback from the crews will change and improve routes to help treat and clear roads quicker.
