The Board of Commissioners has authorized the acceptance of a $170,000 in-kind donation from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, Inc. to construct an outdoor basketball court at Wild Horse Creek Park and to renovate the community room at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center.

In 2018, Cobb County approved an agenda item to accept a $44,000 donation from the Hawks Foundation to assist with the construction of the court. That donation was never actualized as the Foundation was undergoing changes to their program. In addition to their construction of the outdoor basketball court, the Foundation’s new Court and Recreational Facilities Program will also include the renovation of the game room at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center.

The Atlanta Hawks Foundation forges partnerships with local agencies in order to benefit children with an interest in basketball through the construction of local basketball courts in metro Atlanta neighborhoods. The Foundation pledged to donate these new playing surfaces to communities across the metro Atlanta area.

“Thanks to their generous donations, thousands will have the opportunity to enjoy a first-class basketball court at Wild Horse Creek Park,” said Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department Director Jimmy Gisi. “The Atlanta Hawks are making a real investment here in Cobb County. This court and renovations will provide additional community spaces for the citizens that use Wild Horse Creek Park and the Ron Anderson Recreation Center.”
