Safety Village adds locomotive to teach children railroad safety

The Cobb Safety Village recently acquired a 1947 locomotive that was donated by Georgia Northeastern Railroad. The train will be used to educate children on railroad track crossings. A school bus will be placed near the tracks to teach children how to safely exit buses in emergencies. The exhibit will be ready by the end of next month. TV23 has more on this story (video).



Colonial Pipeline donates store front at Safety Village


Colonial Pipeline showed its support for safety education in Cobb by recently donating $25,000 to construct a store front in the Safety Village’s reduced-scale village.

“Colonial Pipeline is pleased to become a partner with the Cobb County Safety Village," Sam Whitehead said in a statement. "From my first visit, I saw what a wonderful facility this is and what a great job everyone involved with the village is doing to deliver safety education.”

Colonial Pipeline Company is an interstate common carrier of petroleum products with offices in the metro Atlanta area. The Safety Village is a child-size representation of Cobb, complete with trees and scaled-down models of operative buildings with signage, streets, traffic lights and homes. The site has four distinct areas, each presenting the opportunity to teach children how to react when faced with fire, crime and disaster emergencies, as well as drug and alcohol awareness and pedestrian safety. Safety Village receives more recognition for innovation

Cobb Safety Village continues to earn honors and accolades as an innovative and important safety-education and community asset. The National Association of Counties recently awarded the Safety Village its 2010 NACo Achievement Award. The Safety Village was also designated "Best of Category" in the Children and Youth category. This additional recognition highlights the most outstanding model program.

CAT Recovery Services and Junior League sponsor Safety Village

CAT Recovery Services, Inc. showed its support for safety education in Cobb by recently donating $25,000 to sponsor the construction of a store front in the Safety Village's model-sized village. The company is based in Kennesaw and employs certified technician who help when homes have been flooded or significantly-damaged by storms, fires or mold.

The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta also recently donated $2,500 to the Safety Village. It's an organization of almost 400 women committed to improving communities through effective action and leadership.

Cobb Safety Village honored again for innovation

Cobb was recently honored as a recipient of the Georgia County Excellence Award from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and Georgia Trend magazine. Cobb's Safety Village was recognized for being one of the Southeast's most comprehensive community safety training environments.

"County Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to showcase programs developed by local governments that are having a positive impact on the community," ACCG executive director Jerry Griffin said in a statement. "The Cobb County Safety Village is a unique facility that will serve as a model for innovative approaches in safety training."

The Safety Village has received numerous awards and accolades since it opened in August. The fire department has also been 200 percent more efficient training students and the number of students able to take part in safety training has doubled.



ARCADIS adds to sponsorship of Cobb Safety Village

ARCADIS showed its continued support to help keep Cobb residents safe by donating $50,000 to sponsor the construction of a water tower in the Safety Village's model-sized village. The company has also sponsored a child-size vehicle with the company logo. ARCADIS is an international company providing consultancy, engineering and management services to enhance mobility, sustainability and quality of life.

PBS&J sponsors store front at Cobb Safety Village
PBS&J Corporation, an engineering firm, recently helped support the safety education of Cobb's children and residents by donating $25,000 to the Cobb Safety Village. The company will be represented by a store front in the village and joins other sponsors, including WellStar, Cobb and Douglas Public Health and Malon D. Mimms Co.
