Ethan visits Disney World
Ethan is a typical 3 year old who enjoys singing choir songs, playing Candy Land and watching Dora the Explorer. But Ethan has seven heart conditions that make it difficult for him to breathe and walk. Since Ethan loves Mickey Mouse, the Jungle Book and Ratatouille, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® was excited to grant Ethan’s wish and send him and his family to Disney World for a week! The family stayed at Give Kids the World, where they enjoyed character meals at the Gingerbread House, time lounging at the pool and the opportunity to play free arcade games. Ethan’s favorite part was joining the life-sized game of Candy Land! Ethan and his family also visited all of the Disney theme parks including the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Another highlight of the trip for Ethan was getting to meet the superstar himself, Mickey Mouse! This amazing week in Disney World provided memories that will last a lifetime for Ethan and his family. Khoebie Goes to Disney World Khoebie is an energetic 9-year-old who loves cheerleading, listening to Chris Brown, watching MTV and eating at the Golden Corral. Khoebie has also been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease called Osteosarcoma, a type of cancer that begins in the bones and spreads elsewhere, usually to the lungs or other bones. When Khoebie was asked if she could have one wish in the entire world, she said it would be to go to Disney World. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® was so happy to make Khoebie’s wish come true in August, sending Khoebie and her family on a whirlwind Disney adventure. Khoebie said she had never been to Disney World and was most excited about meeting Tinkerbell and sleeping in Mickey Mouse’s house. She was also very much looking forward to riding the roller coasters, eating corn dogs, singing on stage and all sorts of other fun things. Despite Khoebie’s life-threatening disease, she was able to have an unforgettable trip to Disney World with her family thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation!Mayra goes on a Shopping Spree Twelve-year-old Mayra suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood or bone marrow characterized by an abnormal production of blood cells. An adorable young girl, Mayra loves playing Scrabble, listening to music, and going to school. Mayra was incredibly excited to learn she would be granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, and eagerly proclaimed that she wanted to go on a shopping spree! Mayra and her entire family were picked up at their home by a beautiful limousine before starting the shopping marathon. Mayra began the excitement with a trip to Best Buy where she bought a new computer! She then shared lunch with her family at Johnny’s NY Style Pizza, before heading to the Mall of Georgia. At the mall, Mayra continued the shopping spree with visits to Old Navy, Limited Too, Macy’s, Claire’s and a variety of other stores. Mayra had a great time on her wish and was excited that she was able to share it with her whole family!Melanie’s Alaska Adventure Melanie is a bright, charming 14-year old girl who loves to play her Nintendo Wii and watch Zach Braff on the TV show “Scrubs.” Unfortunately, Melanie suffers from familial dysautonomia, an extremely rare disorder of the nervous system that can cause insensitivity to pain, stunted growth and severe gastrointestinal pain. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation® asked Melanie what she would like for her wish, she said she would love to travel to Alaska on a cruise. Melanie had never been on a cruise before and thought Alaska looked “beautiful, fun, and relaxing.” After flying across the border to Vancouver, Melanie and her family set sail on the Celebrity Millennium cruise ship for a week of exploration. Melanie was able to take in the pristine ice-covered scenery of such places as Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway and when the ship finally docked in Seward, she knew she had experienced the time of her life. She said she will always remember the mountainous glaciers, unencumbered wildlife and, more than anything, the time spent with her brother and parents. Melanie and her family were very grateful to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and everyone who had helped make her special wish come true!Roberto Receives a Computer Roberto is a charming fourteen-year-old boy who loves electronics, soccer, and computer games. Roberto has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells that spreads from one lymph node group to another. Once he was diagnosed, Roberto spent the majority of his time in hospitals. For his wish, Roberto chose to ask for a computer. He chose a laptop because of its portability which would allow him to use it at the hospital for entertainment, and would also be helpful in completing his schoolwork during treatments. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® was excited to provide Roberto with a new laptop, and to make it truly special…Make-A-Wish also provided him with a printer, an iPod Nano, and some computer games! Roberto is thankful for his experience with the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, and also for the distraction his laptop provides during hospital visits and treatments.Rocio Shops to her Heart’s Content Rocio is a fourteen-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease, which is a condition that refers to temporary or permanent damage to the kidneys.
