Your contributions in 2004 helped make their dreams come true. We are delighted to have you share the power of a wish. Please continue to help us grant wishes – your contribution makes a big difference in the lives of these children. Here are the stories of children you have helped:

Jake:
Three-year-old Jake, diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia, loves animals and all the Disney characters, so he wished for a visit to Disney World and to stay at the Animal Kingdom. We had a wonderful time and made memories that will last forever,” says Jake’s mother. “The most endearing moment for us was when Jake cried after he got to drive the cars at the Magic Kingdom. He said ‘I really want to do that again, but they only let you go one time.’ We laughed and explained that he could go as many times as he wanted because this was his wish…and he nearly jumped out of his skin!”

Kelly:
Kelly, a 17-year-old who suffers from aplastic anemia, wants to be an interior decorator, and the first project she wanted to take on was redecorating her bedroom. One Saturday, Kelly took Town Center Mall by storm, purchasing a new comforter and sheets, curtains, wall decorations, bedroom accessories and even a television set. At the end of her wish day, Kelly’s volunteers asked her what her favorite part of the day was and she replied, “I felt special. I rode in a limo for the first time in my life and was able to buy things I have always wanted for my room but could never afford…and now I have it all!”

Kandice:
Fifteen-year-old Kandice suffers from a very rare condition called monosomy 1Q4, but it doesn’t curb her enthusiasm much. Kandice’s volunteers learned that she loves interaction, stimulation and music, so, after much deliberation, her family and doctors chose a VibroAcoustic Ball Pool for Kandice’s wish. The ball pool is a soft tub filled with clear balls. A stereo plugs into the pool and plays music while the balls in the pool change colors. When Kandice sits in her ball pool, she can hear and feel the musical vibrations, watch the balls change colors, and feel the balls all around her, stimulating each of her senses. Kandice’s family says they love to watch her smiling and playing with her sister in her VibroAcoustic Ball Pool.

Andrew:
Seven-year-old Andrew, diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia, loves Legos. When asked to wish for anything in the world, Andrew wanted to visit Legoland in California. He and his family were flown to San Diego for five days of fun and excitement. Andrew was so excited to see all the Lego creations on display at the park. He took tons of pictures standing beside dinosaurs, New York City, Darth Vader, and even safari animals – all built from Legos. The family also spent a day at Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and Disneyland. Andrew’s mother explained after returning home from the trip that “Andrew’s wish trip was magical. Our whole family bonded as we were able to put the cancer diagnosis and years of treatment behind us for just a little while and just enjoy ourselves.”

Greycie:
Sixteen-year-old Greycie, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, spends a great deal of time in bed because of her condition, so her wish was to go on a shopping spree at Best Buy to purchase electronics for her room. Greycie purchased a TV, an IPOD, a computer, some CDs, and even an Xbox. She also bought an Xbox and game for her brother. Best Buy even gave Greycie the employee discount and provided her with a personal shopping assistant. The family and volunteers then dined at Ted’s Montana Grill for lunch to end the day. Greycie even invited her limo driver to eat lunch with her instead of waiting in the car. Although Greycie had a wonderful wish experience, she also touched the lives of everyone she encountered that day.

Jacob:
When the Make-A-Wish Foundation asked seven-year-old Jacob, who suffers from leukemia, to make his wish, he knew where he wanted to go – Disney World. Jacob and his family arrived at the Give Kids the World Village, where he was greeted with a big Mickey Mouse doll, and later, Mickey himself came to visit him. Jacob and his family not only rode the rides at Disney World, but they also went to several nearby theme parks as well. His favorite part of the trip came when he met Spiderman at Universal Studios. “When he saw Spiderman, he put his hands over his face and started jumping up and down!” his mother recalled. The entire family was amazed at the special attention shown to Jacob during his wish!
