Skip Spann Connector

The Skip Spann Connector will create a bridge between Frey Road and Busbee Drive over I-75, giving commuters improved highway access to Town Center commercial amenities and Kennesaw State University.

 

Skip Spann Connector: Connecting Kennesaw State University and the Town Center Area

The Skip Spann Connector will provide a new bridge over I-75 north of Chastain Road to provide direct access from Kennesaw State University to the Town Center economic activity center.
This project will provide:

  • - 19% reduction in daily traffic along Chastain Road at the I-75 interchange
  • - Improved access from KSU to I-75 by constructing barrier separated ramps to and from I-75.
  • - Congestion relief and improved access at the Chastain Road and I-75 interchange
  • - Pedestrian and bicycle access between the KSU campus and stadium

 


Project Status 

Skip Spann Construction

Work continues on the bridge over I-75.

The contractor is not planning to work Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.


For the week of April 27 to May 1 the contractor is planning work at:

Day Work

-Frey Road at Chastain: Signal work

-Busbee Drive at Busbee Parkway: Signal work


Night Work (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; weather permitting)
Monday, April 27
-I-75 Northbound at Chastain Road:
Two left lanes will be closed for installation of protective platform.

Tuesday, April 28
-I-75 Northbound Entrance Ramp at Chastain: Entrance ramp will be closed for installation of protective platform.
-I-75 Northbound at Chastain: Two right lanes will be closed for installation of protective platform.

Wednesday, April 29
-I-75 Southbound at Chastain Road: Two left lanes will be closed for installation of protective platform.

Thursday, April 30
-I-75 Southbound at Chastain: Two right lanes will be closed for installation of protective platform.

Friday, May 1
-I-75 Southbound Entrance Ramp at Chastain: Entrance ramp will be closed for installation of protective platform.
-I-75 Southbound at Chastain: Southbound right lane will be closed for installation of protective platform.

April 7, 2014 Project begins construction!
Summer 2014 Bridge construction over I-75 started in July 2014 and will last until late 2015.

A new traffic light on Frey Road was fully operational in August 2014.

    
Fall 2014 Construction of the retaining walls is complete, excepting the coping (top of the walls). Bridge beams will be set across I-75 beginning the week of Nov. 17. Work will be completed at night with law enforcement pacing to allow for beam placement. Expect delays.

Other planned work includes traffic signal relocation at the Frey Road/Chastain Road intersection and the continuation of signal work at Busbee Drive and Busbee Parkway. Asphalt paving will continue as temperatures allow.

March 2016 Project is scheduled for completion on March 26, 2016.
